So we picked up a new "fun" accessory last week for Miles.

Miles has plagiocephaly and in lay man's terms that is a flat spot. You see Miles' noggin has been in the 99% since 6 months when it grew considerably from 4 to 6 months. During this time he wasn't rolling over yet, which I think was associated with the head growth. I was afraid to let him sleep on his belly until he was rolling over on his own more frequently. Hence... we have a flat spot which is thankfully directly center in the back of his head which means that his face is still symmetrical.

He's doing extremely well with it, which makes this mama's heart feel so much better. Yes, Miles now 10 months old, and the optimal time to get a helmet for plagiocephaly is 6 months...but we can thank Tricare for that gem. I was questioning peds on base about this since 4 months. I have been concerned about it but they always shrugged it off. At 9 months I was adamant about it and we got referred out.

If anyone knows anything about Tricare, you know we got denied to cover the helmet. I knew it going in so I wasn't shocked. I think that's part of the reason the base wasn't pushing for it. They knew it would be denied and my doctor always reminded me. They view it as purely cosmetic, only covering it if it was a result of a surgery. Thanks for nothing military insurance.

We picked up our helmet on Thursday and he's doing great. He has slept like a champ in it and even loves to play with it when he's not wearing it.

He's such an amazing lil guy. He makes his mama so proud.

We decided if lil man was going to have to wear a helmet we might as well make it the toughest looking helmet you can find and chose the skull design. Obviously we'll be working this into our Halloween costume. Since we have been spending so much time apart, I thought it would be great to get a family photo shoot and its our last summer in Idaho. I had planned to go up to one of Mr's favorite running hills outside of town. Its amazing and you can see out for miles and miles. It would have been beautiful, except its fire season out here and the whole area was burnt to a crisp....as was my 2nd option. This was my 4th option thanks to a freak rain and hail storm we had 2 hours prior to this photo shoot. Gotta love Idaho.

For those interested... his shirt is Osh Kosh and his shorts are from H&M. I purchased the tee-pee from this Etsy site. It's custom made and it got here amazingly fast.
And yes, I didn't realize that my hair tie was around my wrist and yes it annoys the crap out of me too. This offer struck me initially because it was written by a fellow military wife but then after reading more about the book, it hit me down to my core as a wife and as a mother.

The book is My Special Force: The Warrior Who taught Me the Meaning of Life and Love, written by Heather Means.

There is a certain kinship you feel as a military wife that others really don't understand, not because they don't want to, just because they can never truly know what it feels like until you've been there. As I read Heather's words I have felt almost every single emotion she has felt.

We both fell in love with guys we hadn't expected to. These are men that can make us laugh uncontrollably, want to crawl under the table because of their antics, and be in awe of their shear unwillingness to quit. Its these types of men (and women) that make up our armed forces and its these types that get sent out to do the work that needs to be done.

I know what it feels like to send a husband (the special guy up there) to war. I know what it feels like to have a husband that has a dangerous job. I know what it feels like to be alone during your pregnancy. I know what it feels like to raise a child alone. I know what it feels like to sit at a funeral for a friend who lost her husband and the father of her children after a jet crash. I know what it feels like to shed a tear every time I see a huge American flag flying. Like I said... there is a kinship there for sure.

The book is a love story. It tells the story of Ryan and Heather Means. It gives you snapshots via emails, letters, stories, etc. in the world of these two souls - how they met, fell in love, and the impact Ryan had on the lives of everyone he met, even four years after his death at the young age of 35.

To quote Heather, "Ryan was fearless, funny, and deeply patriotic. When his lifelong friend, Adam White, died in WTC attack in 2011, Ryan, a Southern boy loving his life in New York, left the city life to join the Special Forces... Though he was almost a decade older than most other recruits, Ryan's drive and ambition pushed him to earn his place in one of the nation's most elite fighting forces: the Green Berets."

Heather met Ryan by chance while vacationing in North Carolina the summer of 2005. Their love was fast and furious. For years, their relationship consisted of long distance phone calls, emails, relocations, and 2 pregnancies while Ryan was deployed in Iraq. During their 2nd pregnancy and Ryan's deployment, he became ill and was given only 30 days to live.

The book truly honors the life of Ryan Means. Its a beautiful and heart-wrenching story that makes you want to cherish this glorious life we've all been given but reminds you to live each day to the fullest. Ryan was a true patriot. He loved this country and everything it stood for.

At the end of each update email he wrote to his friends and family, he signed off "Keep on Rocking in the Free World". Its because of men like him we can do that. Thank you Ryan Means.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the book when it becomes available October 15th. Its an important and beautiful story. I was honored to be asked to read it. I think you will be too.
Here our my 2 big guys meeting up at the airport. Love those 2.

Mommy had to fly to Pcola for work, so we packed up the newly reunited family and headed to Florida for a few days. Daddy hadn't gotten to fly with Miles, like Mama has. He was in for some adventure.
Unfortunately it rained in the entire weekend but it was nice during the week while mommy was working, of course.
We came back for a few days. Daddy and Miles ran their 1st 5k and got 2nd place. Pretty sure most underestimated Daddy since he was pushing a stroller. I guess Miles was laughing at everyone as they passed them. They weren't expecting a guy with a stroller smoking them.
We then packed up the whole family again and headed up north to McCall, Idaho for a long weekend. We have spent a lot of time up there during the winter months but never during the summer. We rented a cabin in the woods and really enjoyed ourselves.
We sure do miss our Daddy. But hopefully we'll be able to swing a weekend visit in the next month or so. Miles turned 8 months on July 20th. This was the morning of the 20th. He was mesmerized by something on the television. I couldn't help myself but snap a picture. I remember those adorable cowboy pjs arriving at the house and I couldn't believe that someday he'd be big enough to fit into them. They are 9 months :(

Mr. Jetplane has been gone for a training program since March. We have gotten to see him twice since he left, both for long weekends. So, as you can imagine, we miss Daddy a lot. We Skype with him every night, but that's just not the same. Lil man is growing up so quickly, it breaks my heart that Daddy isn't here to witness these changes first hand. He is coming home on Saturday for about a month. We can't wait!!!
Take a look at that face... I'd like to say he gets that from his Daddy, but I'm pretty sure that dirty look right there, that's mine. He was busy playing on his piano and watching cartoons and he wasn't happy about Mama interrupting his "ME" time.
We started Baby Led Weaning (BLW) at 6 months. Its going really well. Admittedly we still do some baby food but he's doing really well. We tried Cheerios this weekend. I have no idea why I didn't think of them before, probably because I think they're nasty...but he seems to like them.

Some food that we are big fans of - sweet potatoes, carrots, red/green peppers, mini bagels (he gets about 1/4 of one), peaches, kiwi, strawberries, watermelon, mangoes, and rice cakes.

I have started buying bags of frozen fruit. They tend to be thawed out by the time he has interest in them and its easier, lasts longer, and I think cheaper in the long run.

So, as always, I have the best of intentions in blogging. Honestly I do, but it just seems like I can't get back in the swing of things. I realized that I never shared Miles' nursery with the blog world, so I thought it was high time I did that.

I had a lot of different ideas when it came to his room. Initially I had envisioned a woodsy, forest-like room. I had already purchased a stencil to mimic the expensive ass wallpaper I really wanted and you have seen everywhere. I had the room painted gray long before we got pregnant. I always had that stencil in mind and thought, girl or boy it would work. When we found out Miles was a boy and I actively started looking at fabrics...I threw everything else out the window.

Its Michael Miller and I bought it on sale thru Fabric.com. My lovely mother came out to visit and made all the bedding except for the crib sheet. That is from the Land of Nod but was on sale via Gilt. I also purchased the changing pad cover then as well. Surprisingly it matched the other Michael Miller bunting themed fabric. I purchased all the fabric excluding the solid fabric (including the lovely clementine color) from Fabric.com, the rest was from Joann's. It was only around $2.99 a yard with the sale they were running.

The bunting hanging on the wall was made by a friend that used it as decoration for our baby shower threw by our squadron. She used all the left over fabric I had already. The large M wasn't what I initially wanted on the wall but it was an easy and cheap fix. I bought the M from Joann's on major sale and painted it with Martha Stewart glitter paint, sadly the glitter doesn't really show up as I expected it to.

The gallery wall was a labor of love and something that is constantly being updated/changed. The framed animal prints came from here. I adore them and bought more since they were on sale. I had the last picture of Milo and Charlie blown up on a canvas. The picture is from when we were announcing we found out Miles was a boy. We lost Charlie 2 days later. I love that picture and it will be with us forever. The lion sleeping was purchased quite some time ago from 20x200 and I had it matted and framed at Michael's. The mirror was on sale at Hobby Lobby and the jet is a gift that every family gets from the squadron. It has all of Miles' stats on it.

The dresser is from Ikea and knobs from Hobby Lobby (on big sale). The cart is from Ikea and I knew from the moment I saw it online that I had to have it. Its perfect and one of my favorite things in the room.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the chair situation. I knew I wanted a comfy chair that rocked. On one visit to Babies R Us I saw that they were now carrying various types of rockers and gliders in stock. I saw another style of chair in this color with brown piping. I liked the look of the chair but it wasn't comfortable at all. I found out that I could customize the stock chair that I liked but in the color I wanted (which is my favorite color by the way). When I was placing the order I asked the clerk if he thought it looked like Chairy from Pee Wee's Playhouse. Not that I cared...because I loved that show, but still...

He didn't get it... oh well. I love this chair. And the answer is YES....its looks like Chairy and that makes me love it even more. The ottoman looks like an expensive one from the Land of Nod, but I got it online from Target for around $17 on clearance...SCORE.

My mother made the curtains as well. I bought white ones from Walmart and we added the fabric to the bottom. The baskets are from TJ Maxx and I seriously adore them.

Now onto the real labor of love... the shelf. Let me back up a little bit. There was one thing I knew I wanted for my child's nursery long before I was even pregnant. I wanted a Jenny Lind Crib. I spotted this shelf at a thrift store. It was being used to display various things and I asked if it was for sale, which is was and was quite reasonable. It was a nasty orange-maple color that I quickly decided needed to be turquoise, my favorite color. I loved how the spindles mimicked the look of a Jenny Lind crib. The color is weathered glass Eddie Bauer from Lowe's. Its one of my favorite colors, I used it in my home office in our North Carolina house.

This pregnant lady worked on this shelf for in the summer in her garage with a face mask on...Dear Lord so many coats of primer and paint.

The rug is from Overstock, its a large circle and very chunky. Milo loves laying on it which is great except its a pain in the ass to try to get dog hair out of...like its not possible.

The large Zebra Storage Bin is from 3 Sprouts and I bought from Target.com. I bought the elephant one as well and we use it in the living room. I love this brand and have found that Target online has the best pricing. Most of the knick knacks throughout the room are from thrift stores, Target, or things we collected over the years.

On the bottom shelf are 2 coin banks that my husband was given by his Grandpa Freeman who Miles Freeman is named after. The Bolt dog is a gift from our squadron since we are the Tbolts. The striped baskets are from TJ Maxx and the pug bookends were bought on OneKingsLane.

All of the white frames are from Target and the Silver frames are from Walmart. I love these silver frames and have them throughout my house. Our local Walmart no longer sells them but you can buy 2 packs of them online in various sizes. I find them to be rather nice frames for the price. I refuse to spend a ton of money on frames.

Overall I'm pretty happy with Miles' room. I'll be sad when we move next year but such is the life of a military wife.

We can't help but wonder how he would be with Miles. He would love Miles, he might also knock him over, but he'd love him nonetheless.

We have his ashes in our bedroom on the side of the room where he used to sleep. I know it might sound stupid or cheesy to some, but still feel like he's here with us. I had a vivid dream where I felt like I was awake and he was laying in bed with me, I could smell him and even feel his coat on my hands. I swept the hallway the other day and found a huge clump of dog hair, not uncommon around here but not like Milo's hair. This was Charlie's. Mr. said the cleaning lady obviously wasn't doing her job well enough. That can't be the case because we ripped up the old flooring in our laundry and storage area and put new flooring down, the hair came from there... how did it get there. Very strange in my opinion.

I miss our Charlie Boy so very much. I still blame myself for his accidental death and tell him I'm sorry on an almost daily basis.

Just like I told him every single day... You were the best big white dog I've ever had.
I had the best of intentions in keeping up with this blog, but sometimes life just gets in the way, am I right?

Miles will be 7 months old tomorrow. WTF. How did this happen?

He is just an amazing lil man that bring so much joy into our lives. I promise to share more in future posts but for now here are some recent photos from our 6 month photo shoot. Sadly daddy is still away at training and wasn't able to be with us. We sure do miss daddy.
It was this lil man's 1st Easter. Of course I had to be "that" mom and dress him up with an adorable bunny hat!

Miles was sweet and got his nanny an Easter basket as well.

Here's a lil peek at the Easter card we sent to immediate family. That picture was taken about 3 weeks before Easter. I can't believe how big he's gotten since then.

This is our ONLY PICTURE AS A FAMILY that I have from Easter. Its after a long day and we're prepping Miles for his bath. Mr. said put the hat on him, everyone loves an almost naked baby in a hat. Man has got a point I suppose.

Here is Miles' 1st Easter basket. No its not monogrammed...hope that doesn't make me a bad mom. I'm so fickle with things, I'll want a new one every year I bet. The candy is obviously for the big boy (aka DAD).

Our boys with their Easter goodies. Milo got a new stuffed toy and treats. He refused to look at me if the treats were next to him so, they are pictured.

I have no good pictures of Miles in his Easter best. I might actually dress him up and get pictures just so I have them...shhh... don't tell. We went to Easter brunch with friends at the Club on base. Its actually a rather nice buffet.

Afterwards the big boys went to play golf and the ladies (and kiddos) went to our friends' house to watch a movie, nap, and indulge in some adult beverages.

Overall, it was a great 1st Easter as a family. I'm just thankful we all got to spend it together.

Daddy had his fini flight in the F15e. I'll share more about this later, but its with a heavy heart that we're leaving the fighter community. We're staying in the Air Force but leaving fighters behind. Mr. leaves for a new training course soon, but I'll stay here until we get our next assignment, which will hopefully Vegas.
Have no fear, he had on headgear while the jets were running. He actually fell asleep to the jet noise :) He's sporting a mustache because its March and, yet another tradition is Mustache March, so daddy has been growing one as well. Yes....yuck.
Today I wanted to post something about a wonderful organization, DFW Pug Rescue. I wish I lived closer and could foster some of these sweet babies. Instead, I donated money to help this worthwhile cause.
Thank you to everyone who has responded with donations and applications to
foster pugs following our major rescue effort this week. Volunteers are still
coordinating and transporting the 37 pugs taken in recently, the largest rescue
campaign in the history of Dallas Fort Worth Pug Rescue. Tia, the 3-year-old
whose intestines were partially outside her body, underwent a 2.5-hour emergency
surgery yesterday morning and doctors say she is doing well so far. Our crisis
team responded to the call to take in all of these pugs and has been working
around the clock with the vets, techs, and volunteers to help get these little
ones ready for their vaccinations, for spay and neutering, and for treatment for
chronic skin conditions.

Our basic veterinary costs are going to be
substantial, but we believe every one of these lives is precious and worth
saving. Veterinary and rescue transportation costs stand at $19,700 today. We
have divided up the pugs between five different vet clinics and each is
receiving vaccinations and a thorough exam to ensure they are healthy enough for
spay and neuter. Fortunately we received some welcome good news - the first
small batch of pugs tested has been found to be heartworm negative.

Besides the cost to spay and neuter 37 pugs, provide urgent dental care
to 20 who need it, and funding Tia's lifesaving surgery, there has also been the
challenge of naming almost 40 pugs! Mrs. Puff, Barney, Bonita, Pearl, LollyPug,
Mungo, and Carlos are all newly named according to their personalities. We will
be sharing more pictures of these little ones on our Facebook page in the
future.

Rescue leaders thanked Creekside Pet Care Center of Keller,
Texas, hospital manager Kim Grisham, and Dr. Fisher for all they have done to
help us bring these pugs to safety. Thanks also to Westcreek for helping us
provide boarding for the largest influx of rescues we have ever experienced in
such a short period.

"Sometimes opportunities present themselves and you have to take a leap of
faith," said DFW Pug Rescue Director Sue Chapman. "A few days ago we were
presented with the possibility of rescuing up to 75 pugs. The directors made a
rapid decision - We would do this." Most of the pugs are under 5 years old, shy,
and curious about this new world that awaits them, she said. "We have over 31
pugs that need foster homes quickly."

Please open your hearts and help us to nurse these young pugs back to
health, and give them the happy, healthy lives they have always deserved.

I can easily get sucked in looking at clothes, crafts, nurseries, gardens, and of course FOOD.

I'll admit that I used to go thru my cookbooks on Sundays looking for new recipes for the week, now I'm on my Ipad looking at what I've pinned. I thought I would give you some of the recipes that I've pinned that have actually been very tasty.

Italian Chicken - It was pretty good.

The link that it goes to is actually incorrect - Here is the correct directions -
Crockpot Italian Chicken: 4 chicken breasts, 1 packet Zesty Italian dressing seasoning, 1 8 oz. cream cheese (softened), 2 cans cream of chicken soup; Cook on low for 4 hours. If sauce is too thick, add a little milk. Serve over pasta.

I made my own additions - I added garlic and diced onions because, well I add garlic and diced onions to everything. I also added button mushrooms. I still think it needed something. Next time I would add broccoli or canned artichokes or something else. It needed more veggies for me.

This is hands on the easiest dish and actually pretty tasty.

Here are the directions from Pinterest - 4 raw chicken breasts, new potatoes, green beans. Arrange in 9x13 dish. Sprinkle with a packet of Italian dressing mix and then top with a melted stick of butter. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Enjoy!

I added mushrooms to this original version, what can I say I love mushrooms. I have also made a version where I did various fresh vegetables - peppers, onions, mushrooms, squash, and broccoli instead of potatoes and green beans and served it with a side of pasta.

Crockpot Beef Stroganoff - I made right before Miles was born and made it again shortly after. Its pretty tasty. But a couple of pointers... 1. don't add the noodles to the crockpot. If you have left overs your noodles are mushy. 2. I preferred using stew meat. I used cube steak the 2nd time, I didn't like how it broke down in the dish. But that's just me. 3. Of course I added garlic.

Mexicon Dip - I've made this 3 times for parties. Its yummy, but is spicy. It gets spicier the long you let it sit.

Directions from Pinterest - Mexicorn Dip - 2 cans Mexicorn, 1 can hot Rotel, 2 cups shredded cheddar, 6 green onions (sliced), + 1 cup each mayo and sour cream.
Everyone and their mom has made these amazing treats... if you haven't do it. So good. I add raisins and dried cranberries to mine.

Finally, I made these last night...
Skinny Sour Cream Enchiladas - they were good. I generally don't like enchiladas but one of my fellow military wives brought us some after Miles was born and I seriously devoured them. This recipe looked somewhat similar to what I thought was in hers (since I haven't gotten my hands on her recipe yet). These were different, but they were super tasty. I can't wait to see some leftovers this afternoon.

So there is just a couple of the recipes that we've tried from Pinterest that were actually good. I'll admit I've had a few that weren't that great. I may share those as well.

Anyone else have some good Pinterest recipes they want to share :) Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7551831423453911791.post-84211521516166441282013-02-20T10:28:00.000-06:002013-02-20T10:29:36.213-06:00Park City 2013

Before I started back to work we took a lil weekend trip over President's Day to Park City. We live in Idaho and its about a 5 hour drive down to Park City. While I've been to Salt Lake City a number of times I hadn't been to Park City. Unfortunately, I couldn't hit the slopes like the boys did, but Miles and I tried to have fun just the same.

We went shopping, had great sushi at The Flying Sumo, and enjoyed some good quality time in front of the fire.

Today is a big day in our household. Today is my first day back to working full time. Today I become a "working mother", which is weird saying because first and foremost, all moms are working mothers whether you have a "paying job" or stay at home with the kids. That being said, now I have to juggle my work commitments and everything that comes with having a baby.

Can a tell you a secret? I'm already overwhelmed just thinking about having to juggle it all, especially when Mr. Jetplane is gone for a week or more, or when he's deployed.

That being said, we have hired a nanny and she's been working part time for 2 weeks she started full time last week. She is as sweet as pie and Miles seems to like her and the pug child likes her, so she's in. (p.s. she also has a pug which definitely helped in the interview process)

Howdy everyone... I haven't done a Pug Friday since before Miles was born. I've been getting a lot of questions wondering how our 1st born is doing with the newborn. Well, I'm happy to say that things are going very well. I do think he is slightly jealous so he prefers to sit as close to you as possible while you are holding or feeding Miles.

He has taken Miles' toys/rattles/etc and assumed they were his. The cutest thing is that he has taken Miles his toy, which we call his baby and dropped by Miles when he's crying. Its adorable.
Overall, he has been a wonderful big brother and we tell him that every day. We still miss Charlie immensely and talk about him a lot, we wonder what he'd be doing right now and how he would interact with Miles. We're pretty sure he's watching over his lil baby brother. Thank you all so much for your kind and supportive comments, tweets, etc. Motherhood is great, but its honestly the most challenging feat I've ever undertaken. But rest assured it has also brought with it the best results. I just wanted to share with you my experience, because I think at times the blog world is a little too Ms. Mary Sunshine and not enough of the real deal.

That being said my lil man turned 2 months old on Jan 20th... I can't believe it.

I've been doing the mommy job 24/7 and its been wonderful. Well to be honest, its been exhausting, overwhelming, scary, and crazy but wonderful all at the same time.

While we're on the honesty train, the first couple of weeks were probably the strangest and hardest of my life thus far. You see I was in labor for a very long time before it was time to push and then after a little over 2 hours of pushing we decided it was best for us to proceed with a c-section.

I had a temperature at that point, I'd been in labor for a long time, the baby was still face up (we'd been trying to move him for several hours), and his head felt like it was stuck inside my hip. When I pushed I felt like they were ripping off my right leg. I was also experiencing severe pain in the top of my uterus every time I pushed. The doctor looked at me and said I'll let you push for another hour if you'd like to. I told him if you can't pull this baby out right now then let's do the c-section. I told him that I was mentally, physically, and emotionally done. I had absolutely nothing to left to give.

Then the next 10 minutes were a blur, so many people rushing in and out of the room I was totally over whelmed. I was having a c-section, I wasn't prepared for this. Ripping out my contacts, taking off my jewelry, questions being asked, and I was just totally clueless of what to really expect.

I was scared to death. I have never had any surgery or been admitted to a hospital. I've only been under once and that was to have my wisdom teeth removed. I wasn't prepared and this wasn't the plan.

Let's just say I wasn't the best patient. Mr came in and sat by my head, I told him thru my own tears that I was really scared. I was asking the anesthesiologist a ton of questions. What should I feel, what shouldn't I feel... I thought I was feeling too much. Which scared me even more. Let's just say I was very vocal.

They pulled Miles out and I heard him cry right away. That was amazing. Then I asked the anesthesiologist, how much longer... He said "Well once they put your uterus back in probably about 30 minutes..."

Let me just tell you that was probably the last thing in the world you should have said to me. I thought to myself and I may have even said it out loud "My uterus is out... 30 more minutes... you have to be f'n kidding me!". Like I said, I wasn't the best patient. At this point, my upper body began shaking and my lips quivering and I couldn't get myself to calm down. I was periodically shaking throughout the whole labor and delivery. It was really annoying.

Mr had left the room with the baby by this point and I was totally losing it. Thankfully they knocked me out for the rest. It turns out that I had an infection that we didn't know about. My placenta was infected and that was causing me to feel my contractions stronger than they were appearing on the monitors. Thankfully I didn't pass on the infection to the baby.

Sidenote-I actually apologized to the anesthesiologist for being such a pain in the ass when he came in to see me the next day, since one of the techs blew a vein and he came in to do it for him.

But to get back to my point, Miles' birth wasn't what I had expected. His birth wasn't the labor and delivery that I had imagined or dreamed about. I felt like I was mourning the birth I had envisioned and that made me sad. To top it all off, I had to be readmitted to the hospital 2 days after leaving the hospital due to eclampsia, which I didn't even know you could get after birth. I had horrible headaches and severely high blood pressure. I had to be put on a magnesium drip for 24 hours. I wasn't really back to normal for over a week after be discharged the 2nd time. I had to be put on various meds to control my headaches and blood pressure for the next 6 weeks.

I kept breast feeding that entire time and I tried to sleep when I could. Thankfully my husband and my mother were both huge help. My mother is a saint, I don't know what we would have done without her and my stepdad here. These first 2-3 weeks were not was I had envisioned for the beginning of our lil family. I didn't have the glow of a new mommy. I felt run down and sick. I felt like I was just a milk cow for my son and the only time I spent with him was feeding him. I didn't feel like we were connecting.

You see all these pictures of new moms in the hospital and they're all cute and polished and I looked like absolute hell and I felt even worse. I didn't feel cute. I felt horrible and then I felt even worse for even thinking about myself instead of my son.

But I'm happy to say, things are better. Do I still have some baby blues, oh yes I do. My husband asked me where the happy me went to. Well, the truth is I'm not unhappy at all, I'm just not happy happy if that makes sense. I'm still trying to figure out the new me, the mommy me.

I adore my son, make no mistake about that. I am so thankful to have a job that let me take maternity leave to spend this time with him, its been amazing. But this isn't easy and my hormones are cray cray. Breastfeeding is hard and overwhelming. Your life revolves around your boobs and your baby. I've had to supplement with formula because he wasn't gaining weight. That stressed me out even more. Getting out of the house, especially in the frigid temps we have out here, is a full on event. Your life has been turned upside down and you can't prepare for all that you're going to have to deal with.

But I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm thankful that I suffered the health issues and not him. I'd rather take all that pain and more, instead of him feeling an ounce of it. I'm so grateful that he is healthy and happy.

And I am forever thankful that this lil nugget calls me his mommy. Please don't get the wrong idea, I love my new life. But I wanted to be honest about my new life. I wanted to let other new moms know that they aren't the only ones that feel this way.

Sorry I have left you all hangin. Thank you all for the sweet emails, texts, and comments asking about our baby boy.

He didn't enter the world in quite the way we have expected but he is perfection. We have a rather long and "painful" birth story that I'm not ready to share just yet but I plan to share it soon.

That being said our sweet lil man, Miles Freeman, entered the world via c-section at 11:55am November 20th weighing 7 lbs 11 oz and 21 inches long. Daddy thinks he's going to quite a lucky kid. I will say (sorry for TMI) that he was conceived in between all of his daddy's TDYs back and forth to Vegas for 2 months so who knows...
Here is the first time daddy held his baby boy, pretty darn cute if I do say so myself.
